KAE Announces New Power Electronics Plant in North America

KOSTAL Automobil Elektrik announced the expansion of its Power Electronics business into North America with the Groundbreaking and Laying of the First Stone Ceremony on Monday, December 5, 2022 at its new site in Queretaro.

The first construction phase (21.000 square meters) of the new plant with a total of 41.000 square meters will be completed in the second half of 2023. The new manufacturing site will be KAE’s first power electronics plant in North America and its fourth manufacturing site in Mexico.

The President & CEO of KOSTAL North America, Dr. Harry Asher, explained to the 130 government officials, community and business leaders, customers, members of the press and employees that this investment will allow KOSTAL to efficiently serve the production operations of our customers in North America. In addition, the plant ensures KOSTAL’s role as a key player for integrated energy solutions as vehicles become increasingly connected to the grid systems in all major markets around the world.

Dr. Tino Naumann, Member of the KAE Management Board, specified that this new state-of-the-art plant will manufacture power electronic components for the electric vehicle market and will feature advanced technologies proving a clean environment for production. When completed in 2023 the new KOSTAL plant will generate 750 new jobs and will manufacture onboard chargers as well as other electronic components to serve the growing electric vehicles market. It will be another important step of the success story for KOSTAL and for Queretaro.

In his speech German Ambassador to Mexico, Wolfgang Dold, pointed out that there are more than 2000 companies with German capital investing in Mexico. 400 of these companies are investing in the Bajio region and 192 directly in Queretaro. With the expanded presence of up to four plants in Mexico, KOSTAL is one of the pioneering German companies in Mexico for almost half a century now.

Mauricio Kuri Gonzalez, Governor of the State of Queretaro led the groundbreaking ceremony and the laying of the first stone. He thanked the KOSTAL Group for their continued confidence in the economic dynamism of the region, and emphasized that the state seeks to continue to be an ally and active supporter of companies like KOSTAL. 

The minister of Sustainable Development, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, pointed out that this new KOSTAL facility will have advanced technology that requires skilled talents like the ones in Queretaro.
