Comfort, safety and security
Because of the number of components installed in the doors, such as actuators, sensors and operating devices, many vehicles are equipped with electronic door systems to control the various functions involved. In the course of a development history stretching over 20 years, electric window controls with KOSTAL’s patented pinch protection system have become a feature which is recognised world-wide. This window control system, with other functions such as central locking and mirror adjustment, forms the core of the various door electronics.
Future challenges in the field of door control units will be based on three main areas:
1. System integration
Ever-increasing integration and the constant search for cost reductions in electronic components will determine the future development of door systems. As a major system integration specialist, KOSTAL have created a tool-supported development environment in recent years, in which a defined process is used in order to arrive at the most cost-effective solution. KOSTAL’s cross-customer platform strategy enables synergy effects to be achieved in terms of the use of resources and component costs.
2. Pinch-protection innovation
KOSTAL use the term “pinch-protection innovation” to describe a further development, which creates a more user-friendly environment for the window-lift system. A significant reduction in the parameters involved has resulted in greater improvements in system alignment. In particular, the performance of the window-lift system on poor road surfaces has been raised by using a hardware-in-the-loop system.
3. SMC – Sensorless Motor Control
KOSTAL have carried out further development on their revolution counting system
and there are now millions in use throughout the world. Compared with standard control units using Hall-effect devices, system costs are reduced significantly, both in central and decentralised window controls.
